Fashion Designer OLIVER TOLENTINO

Oliver Tolentino, Los Angeles’ coveted red carpet couturier, has been compared to the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Valentino.  A celebrity go-to for everything luxurious and elegant, Tolentino’s feminine detailing and strong silhouettes capture old Hollywood glamour.  With a design philosophy that stems from his native Philippines, Tolentino’s vibrant colors and prints and attention to details have earned him an A-List roster of clientele.

Less than 3 years ago Tolentino set up his main atelier on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles while keeping his boutique in Manila.  Immediately, he was noticed and honored with a spot as 2010 participant in the OSCARS®Designer Challenge, Fashion Week El Paseo‘s 2011 Designer of the Week in Palm Springs, the 2011 Samsung MetroWear Icon (the Philippines’ most prestigious honor), and San Diego Women’s Week’s 2012 Featured Designer.

Tolentino also specializes in eco-friendly fabrics, earning him the 2011 Featured Designer of eco-ethical endeavor Rags2Riches and the 2010 Sustainable Eco Fashion Award at Islands of the World Fashion Week in the Bahamas. Through his development and incorporation of native fabrics derived from pineapple fibers (piña), abaca plant fibers, water-lily leaves, jute and raw silk cocoon, Tolentino has become an advisor to his country’s weavers and embroiderers.

His piña gowns have been featured at Global Green USA’s 9th Annual Pre-Oscar party, Fashion Week El Paseo, Downtown L.A. Fashion Week, Gorgeous & Green (San Francisco), United Colors of Fashion (New York), the Peabody Awards, Islands of the World Fashion Week (Bahamas), EcoChic events (Hong Kong, Geneva, Milan), InSTYLE, and the OSCARS® Designer Challenge where Hollywood saw these fabrics for the first time.  He won first prize at Bali Fashion Week 2008 with an outfit made of Philippine capiz shells.

After a busy 2011, marked by the achievements of a stunning 68-piece collection for Palm Spring’s Fashion Week El Paseo and a 78-piece collection for Manila’s Samsung MetroWear, both to standing ovations, Tolentino is already off to an exciting start in 2012.  He was the first designer featured at San Diego Women’s Week, created 14 outfits exclusively for the premiere of America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion (Cycle 18), and opened Barbados Fashion Week in May.  The New York Post picked actress Emmy Rossum in his yellow eco piña dress as its “Look of the Week” for Pre-Oscar week and InSTYLE magazine’s June issue also featured the dress.  Additionally, Oscar-winner Anna Paquin wore Tolentino’s pink wool linen dress with peplum as an alternative cover for Zooey magazine’s April-May 2012 issue.

Tolentino’s timeless collection has been seen on the red carpet at Hollywood’s most glamorous events or shows, including the Oscars, Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys, Grammys, American Billboard Awards, E!’s Fashion Police, and on two seasons of America’s Next Top Model (Cycle 17 and the Cycle 18) including the Cycle 18 premiere in which Tolentino appeared.
